David Small has received numerous awards for his illustrations, which have appeared in over 40 books as well as The New Yorker and The New York Times. He wrote and illustrated his memoir, Stitches, which became a New York Times bestseller as well as a National Book Award Finalist. David spoke candidly with me about his heart-wrenching childhood years, his love of art, and his affinity for cats.
