Satish Sawant was born in a leprosy colony in Pune, India, to parents affected by leprosy. He sat down with me to discuss the stigma surrounding people affected by leprosy in India, including those who have been cured but continue to live with permanent physical effects of the disease. He also shared his journey of founding a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating communities about leprosy and providing support to the colony where he grew up.
